Australia beat Pakistan by 170 runs in the first test match on 5th and final day on Wednesday, 30th December, 2009 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia now leading the 3 match test series by 1-0.

Pakistan were at good position at the stump of day 4 required 251 more runs with 7 wickets in hand on the final day but lost 2 wickets in the 1st over of the morning. Nathan Hauritz took his 1st 5 wickets haul while Mitchel Johnson took 3 wickets.

Shane Watson got Man of the Match for his maiden test century 120* in the 2nd inning and 93 runs in the 1st inning.
