Sri Lankan Team Attacked in Pak, 6 Players Injured. Tour Canceled

Six Sri Lankan players has been injured in a shocking terror attack by unidentified gunmen who opened fire on the bus carrying Sri Lankan team to Gadaffi stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, 3rd March, for the 3rd day's play of the 2nd test match.

Chaminda Vaas, Thilan Samaraweera, Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Thusara and Tharanga Paranavitana are amongst the players who got injured, while captain Mahila Jayawardhane and top spinner Muralitharan received minor injuries.




At least 6 security men and two civilians are killed by the masked gunman around Liberty Market near Gaddafi stadium in Lahore.



About 12 masked gunmen attacked the team bus armed with rockets, grenades and AK-47s.

Injured players discharged from hospitals and team has been taken to a safe location.

Pakistan sports ministry aplogised Sri Lankan government but tour has been called off and team will fly back to Colombo via Abu Dhabi, and its very difficult for any games to be held in Pakistan including 2011 World Cup.

Second and final test match of the 2 match test series between host Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played from Sunday, 1st March to Thursday, 5th March, 2009 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore from 10:00 local, 05:00 GMT. First match drawn last week at Karachi.

Pakistan regained their moral after a sensational triple century by captain Younis Khan and took 5 wickets in the 2nd inning. Pakistan displayed good alround performance in the first test and they will try to win this match and the series since 2006 at home. Mohd. Talha will replace Sohail Khan.

This is the last test as Sri Lankan Captain captain for Mahela Jayawardhane and the entire team will try to give good fare well to their captain. Farveez Mahroof is unavailable otherwise the same team for this test also.

One of the most memorable inning played by any Pakistani captain, Younis Khan's 313 runs in the first test against Sri Lanka not only helps Pakistan to take lead in th 1st inning but a hope to win th match also at one point as first match drawn on Wednesday, 25th February, 2009 at Karachi. 2nd and final test will start from 1st March, 2009.
